Practicum activities for landscape architecture students at the Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC)

To carry out the Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi, the Landscape Architecture Study Program carried out practicum activities for students in the Landscape Planning and Balinese Traditional Gardens course on Thursday, September 21, 2023, which was held at the Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC), Nusa Dua, Badung, Bali. This activity aims to provide students with knowledge regarding traditional Balinese landscape and garden planning in the ITDC area, so that it is hoped that students will gain experience that can increase their knowledge in the field of traditional Balinese landscape and garden planning, where it is known that the ITDC area is famous for its seriousness in maintaining traditional Balinese concepts. This is proven by the awards received, namely the THK Awards from 2000 to 2023. There are several traditional Balinese concepts that are applied, namely Tri Hita Karana, Tri Mandala, and Catur Warna.

Practical activities were accepted by ITDC managers who also provided exposure to gardening concepts, garden elements, landscape management, community governance and waste management. In the final part of the practicum, students are invited to tour the ITDC area to see directly the ITDC area, the water management area with a lagoon system, the composting area, plant propagation and waterblow which are the mainstay natural tourism destinations for ITDC. This activity certainly provides a lot of new knowledge for students that cannot be obtained if they only study in class.
